Throwing the Anchor
I toss over the anchor,
I hold the rope and wait for it to reach the bottom of the ocean,
I turn my head toward the big blue,
my eyes meet the horizon where sky and ocean unite
It hit bottom and dragged a little,
momentarily forcing me to shift focus,
the image of the horizon’s beauty escapes me
…only for a moment though
I make the effort,
I feel it firmly hook on an unknown rock
I thought could never exist
The standstill allows me to focus on the broody swimmers,
I spot them as the horizon tils to and fro,
I gasp as they reach newly-spotted Islands,
I notice the anchor holds steady and strong on the rock
I thought could never exist
I close my eyes to capture this image,
But there is more still,
I make the effort,
I open my eyes,
I see on two Islands,
life.
